Mission Accomplished For Creation |
Third place in the LMP1 class at Jarama today was enough for Creation to claim second place in the final Teams’ classification and secure a coveted entry to the 2007 24 Hours of Le Mans. Creation tied on points with the Chamberlain Synergy team but was placed second by virtue of its 2nd place finish at the Nurburgring which is a higher placed finish than Chamberlain has managed. It was not, however, an easy Spanish race for the British team and its CA06/H, competing in its last race in Europe, suffered from tyre problems, a fuel pick-up issue and – by the end of the race – had lost 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. Third Row Start For Creation |
Creation suffered its most disappointing qualifying session in the Le Mans Series this afternoon at Jarama and will start the final race of the 2006 season in 6th place on the grid. The talented and highly experienced Nicolas Minassian, who never fails to give less than 110% whenever he is behind the wheel of a race car, was at a loss to understand or explain his apparent lack of pace. “I really don’t understand it at all,” said the Frenchman. “We had a good practice session this morning and were right on the pace. Creation team notes from Jarama |
It was the first visit here for both Nicolas Minassian and Felipe Ortiz, so it was a steep learning curve for the Creation team today. The technically challenging track was reported to be very slippery and, as Minassian said after just one lap, “Traffic will be bad in the race, I can tell you that now!” Beppe Gabbiani first raced here nearly thirty years ago, and the 1983 Spanish Grand Prix was one of several outings at the Jarama circuit for the Italian. Creation Gunning For Position |
With Pescarolo Sport having tied up the LMP1 title, there is only one place Creation wants to finish in the Championship and that’s right behind them as runners-up. “Our aim is to go all out this weekend and help Felipe, Beppe and Nic finish second in the Drivers’ Championship,” said Ian Bickerton. “We obviously didn’t have a great start to the season, especially at Spa, and Le Mans had both its ups and downs, but our last couple of races have been spot on and everything’s gelled well. At Jarama we’ll be going for exactly the same level of performance we showed at the Nurburgring and Donington and hopefully we’ll be able to secure 2nd in the Team’s chase too.” Read the full preview here |

Creation take double podium finish at Donington |
Fielding two cars for the first time ever, the Bicester-based Creation team brought both of their CA06/H cars home to a formation finish in 2nd and 3rd places in the latest round of the 2006 Le Mans Series. Nicolas Minassian and Kevin McGarrity claimed the second step of the podium while Jamie Campbell-Walter, Felipe Ortiz and Beppe Gabbiani were a delighted third. JC-W also twice set the fastest lap of the race – his quickest time of 1:21.527 being posted in the 5th of the six hour race. Read the full race report here |

Creation team notes and qualifying report from Donington |
It wasn’t a great day for Creation but it wasn’t a bad one either. There was disappointment about the eventual qualifying positions of 4th (Jamie Campbell-Walter with a time of 1:20.992) and 7th (Nicolas Minassian with a time of 1:21.555) but there was also a great sense of achievement in fielding two of the CA06/H ‘Blue Rockets’. Big Weekend Ahead for Creation |
“We’ve had enough of being 2nd and 3rd and this weekend, at our home race of the Series, there’s only one place we aim to finish and that’s on the top step of the podium. We’ve put into place everything we think we need to help us towards that goal, including the addition of Kevin McGarrity to our driver line-up.” The words of Team Principal, Ian Bickerton, leave no doubt about the Creation team’s intentions for the forthcoming 1000Kms of Donington event. Thirty-three-year-old McGarrity – a close friend and former F3000 running mate of Nicolas Minassian – will be paired with the Frenchman in the nr. 10 Creation CA06/H LMP 1 prototype. Creation's South African 'strong arm' |
Those of you who are regular visitors to the Creation website will already know about Stuart Mack and Ian Smith (no relation to our Engineer 'Smiffy'), who for Le Mans, formed our South African 'strong arm' of the team. The two SA guys brought their own unique style and sense of humour with them and they are welcome back with us any time. As it happens, they know a thing or two about racing, Ian runs his own team and Stuart is Chief mechanic. The pair run Shelby Can-Am Sports Cars, a premier championship in SA, using one-make race cars which used to be run in the USA originally and were exported to SA and raced in the then-known Vodacom Sports Prototype Series or VSP a few years past. Two years ago the name was changed to Shelby Can-Am and the series has grown from strength to strength. The series is at National recognised level so there is a National Champion every season. Here, Stuart gives us a report on their race exploits. Read the full story here |

Podium and Points For Happy Creation |
From pole position yesterday to a storming drive through the field to take 2nd today in the 1000kms of Nürburgring, the electric blue Creation CA06/H was the car to watch today in Germany. And Nicolas Minassian was certainly Creation’s man of the race. “He’s more than a mega today. He’s a mega, mega!” said Ian Bickerton. “Beppe and Felipe both drove very well, but Nic was matchless, wasn’t he? I didn’t think he was going to be able to take 2nd as he kept hitting traffic but he kept the pressure on and it paid off.” Read the full Report here, Pictures can be viewed here ( updated ) |

Creation Storm to Pole Position at Nurburgring Le Mans Series |
Nicolas Minassian, who yesterday compared the feeling of being reunited with the Creation CA06/H as being similar to being reunited with one of his own two feet, this afternoon showed how much that meant to him by storming into pole position for tomorrow’s third round of the Le Mans Series. On his first flying lap he set a time which would have claimed pole position, and then bettered it on his second flying lap to a 1:44.850 – eight tenths of a second quicker than the team’s nearest rivals, and Minassian’s erstwhile Le Mans bosses, Pescarolo Sport. On A Winning Streak After Le Mans Classic |
Le Mans Classic last weekend and the Nurburgring 1000 Kilometres this weekend. It’s a busy few weeks for the Bicester-based Creation team, but a superb win at the Classic weekend made all the hours of work seem worthwhile. Nic Minassian and team founder, Michael Jankowski, driving Mike’s Ligier JS3 in the Plateau 5 section for 1966-1971 cars, not only won their section overall but were also awarded the prestigious prize presented by Ford to the best performance by a Ford or Ford-engined car. The beautiful trophy, an amazingly detailed model of the 1966 Le Mans-winning GT40, was presented by John Fleming, President and CEO of Ford of Europe. Read the full story here, view pictures here |

Creation's Ebay Winner Had Experience Of A Lifetime! |
A few weeks before the Le Mans 24 Hour race we announced a very special competition - an Ebay auction for which the aim was to offer a chance of a lifetime for 2 people to win 'Access all areas' tickets to the race as VIP guests of Creation. The lucky winner was Dave Castledine and he invited his long time friend Paul Johnson. The 2 are regular Le Mans visitors that hail from the Leicester area of England. Dave heads up a very successful Shop fitting business known as JD Displays www.jddisplays.co.uk (make sure you put '.co.uk' - not '.com' as this will take you to an American dating site!) which services clients such as Tommy Hilfiger among other big names. It seems that even the Spammers cant get enough of Creation, despite a recent software and database update these little buggers are still making our lives ..... how can we put it ..... frustrating ..... We are in the process of updating the forum software yet again, and this time we'll be introducing administrative membership registration !!, "what the F*!K is that" says Bicks, well its technical but hopefully it will kill these spammers for good. We've got to change our database to do this so the board will be down for a bit. Normal service ( minus spam ) will be resumed shortly, in the mean time enjoy some pictures from Creation's weekend at Le-Spams.... sorry Le-Mans View the Gallery here. |

CREATION AUTOSPORTIF FINAL UPDATE - 1200 HRS |
After a strong fight back from early mechanical setbacks, Creation Autosportif’s 2006 Le Mans came to a premature end at midday today due to an engine related misfire. The exact cause is not yet known and will be investigated fully once the car returns to its UK base near Oxford. The team stress that it can be attributed to any number of areas. Team Principal Ian Bickerton was realistic about the disappointing outcome of the race. “We spent two hours chasing it [the misfire] and are struggling to cure it. As we’ve seen from the WR which went up in flames already today, I don’t want to risk losing my racing car. We’ve had a pretty bad day and night anyway. The drivers have done a really good job pushing it along but we just can’t cure it and Judd don’t want to lose their engine either. We’ll quit while we’re ahead.” Read the full race update here. |

CREATION AUTOSPORTIF UPDATE 2 - 0500 HRS |
As night fell and temperatures cooled, Jamie Campbell-Walter took the wheel of the Judd-powered Creation CA06/H for the first triple stint of Creation’s race. He set some of his fastest lap times so far, the best being a 3:38.123 at 0120 hrs, making good headway up the overall classification, just before handing the car over to Beppe Gabbiani. Jamie said afterwards, “It’s good, the car is running really well. We were able to put some quick laps in but are still playing catch up. We keep having little problems which are delaying us. We’re coming up to the half way mark so can’t afford to have any more problems if we want to finish in the top five which is what we were aiming for.” Read the full race update here. |

CREATION AUTOSPORTIF UPDATE AT 2300 HRS (SIX HOURS) |
Under blazing sunshine and temperatures of 28o C, Creation started their second assault on the 24 Hours of Le Mans hoping for a smooth race. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be a trouble free two hours. After just 15 minutes of the race, whilst under the safety car which had come out for the BMS Aston Martin crash, Jamie Campbell-Walter came into the pits for what he thought was a standard fuel stop. Quick action by the team identified that a rear brake calliper was leaking and the car was brought into the garage for repairs. Read the full race update here. |

In perfect weather conditions – a great contrast to last night – an all-out fight for the glory of pole position took place today for the 74th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The British Creation team knew from the start they were not going to be in a position to challenge the might of Audi and Pescarolo for pole position, but hoped to imitate their Wednesday grid position of 5th on the grid. 2006 LE MANS 24 HOURS Official Test Day |
“A day from hell!” The succinct summing up from team boss Ian Bickerton neatly covered a troubled eight hours of testing for the small, privateer team from Bicester, England. The team came to Le Mans with its new Creation CA06/H LMP1 prototype full of high hopes, but a number of technical problems meant that they were only able to complete about half the number of laps of their rivals.
